The Anubias 'Pinto' stands out as the most suitable aquatic plant for aquarium hobbyists.

The Anubias 'Pinto' stands out as a remarkable and beautiful variegated leaf variation within the Anubias genus. Selective breeding produced this plant with its unique white and green pigmentation which classifies it as a hybrid or cultivar derived from Anubias barteri. Its minimal maintenance requirements combined with its aesthetic charm make this plant a favorite choice among aquascaping enthusiasts.

An explanation

The oval leaves display a striking combination of green and white variegation alongside their thick leathery texture. The ratio between white and green sections varies among plant specimens. White parts become more fragile because they lack chlorophyll.

Size: This small plant reaches a height of 4 to 6 inches and functions well in tanks ranging from small to medium sizes.

Growth Rate: This Anubias species develops slowly as its new leaves emerge over time just like other members of the genus.

Rhizome: A thick horizontal rhizome serves as the growth point for the plant's leaves. To prevent rot, this cannot be buried.

Guide to Care

Tank specifications

Dimensions: This plant can be placed in nano aquariums and tanks of various sizes.
Conditions of the Water:
Temperature range: 22–28°C (72–82°F)
6.0 to 7.5 pH
Soft to moderately hard water hardness
Lighting: The best lighting is low to medium. When a plant receives too much light it gets stressed in its white areas while algae begins to grow on its leaves.
Substrate: The plant should be attached to hardscapes such as driftwood or rocks rather than being planted directly within the substrate. Ensure that the rhizome remains exposed when you plant it.

Maintenance and Planting

Placement: Its modest stature and ornamental foliage make it most effective when placed in the foreground or midground.

Fertilization: Liquid fertilizers are beneficial, especially for micronutrients. The plant does not need root tabs when it remains on the hardscape instead of being planted in the substrate.

Water Flow: The plant requires low to moderate water flow to prevent algae build-up on its leaves.

Pruning: Use clean scissors for trimming leaves that show yellowing or algae coating to maintain the plant's appearance.

Propagation

propagates through rhizome cutting. Place every section on the substrate or hardscape while ensuring that two to three leaves remain attached to each piece.
Applications

Aquascaping: The striking variegation of aquascapes makes them perfect for creating focus points.
People frequently use it as an accent feature in both large aquariums and small tanks.

Hardscape Decoration: This product attaches well to rocks and driftwood as well as other hardscape features.

Shrimp and Fry Shelter: Provides safe spots where small fish and shrimp can hide and eat.

Low-Maintenance Tanks: These tanks demand minimal care and function well without CO2 supplements which makes them perfect for beginner hobbyists or basic setups.
Difficulties

Algae Growth: Its slow growth combined with variegated leaves make it prone to algae accumulation especially when kept in high-light tanks. Aquarists can benefit from keeping species like caradina shrimp which eat algae.

Delicate White Areas: The white portions of the leaves show more damage and suffer nutrient shortages compared to other sections. Balanced fertilization and stable water conditions are essential.

Aquarists who desire a distinctive plant that enhances their tank's appearance while requiring minimal maintenance will find the Anubias 'Pinto' to be an excellent choice.
