The Anubias White represents an extraordinary and breathtaking variety of aquatic plants.
Anubias White represents an exceptional and scarce cultivar within the Anubias genus and it is widely recognized as Anubias 'Snow White'. Its nearly white or light cream foliage makes Anubias White a standout feature in aquascapes. Despite needing particular care for its unique coloring Anubias White remains tough and simple to maintain similar to its Anubias relatives.
An explanation
The leaves of this plant present a striking white to cream coloration and maintain a sturdy, robust oval shape. Anubias White leaves become entirely white which makes them stand out from the multicolored varieties of Anubias.
The compact plant reaches heights of 2 to 5 inches and serves well as a foreground or nano aquarium option.
Growth Rate: The plant grows very slowly because it does not have enough chlorophyll which is essential for photosynthesis.
Rhizome: Produces roots and leaves; thick and horizontal. The plant requires elevation above the substrate to avoid decaying.
Guide to Care
Tank specifications
Size: Fits aquariums of various sizes.
Conditions of the Water:
Temperature range: 22–28°C (72–82°F)
6.0 to 7.5 pH
Soft to moderately hard water hardness
Lighting: The best light is low to medium. Intense lighting stresses the plant and encourages algae to form on its delicate leaves.
Substrate: Connect to rocks or driftwood and other hardscapes instead of planting into the substrate directly.
Maintenance and Planting
Placement: The plant displays its most striking coloration in the midground or foreground areas.
Fertilization: Its minimal photosynthetic ability requires regular fertilization that focuses on micronutrients to thrive. The best fertilizers are liquids. Root tabs are unnecessary when you plant close to the substrate.
Water Flow: This plant maintains clean leaves by thriving in water flow that remains between low and moderate levels.
Pruning: Remove damaged leaves or those covered in algae when needed.
Spreading
The propagation process requires dividing the rhizome and each section should contain between two to three leaves for effective growth.
Applications
Aquascaping: The pristine white leaves of this plant establish an eye-catching focal point that stands out against other elements in aquascapes.
Dark hardscape elements such as driftwood or black lava rocks combine well with its green vegetation.
Hardscape Decoration: This product works perfectly for attaching to wooden surfaces and rocks to achieve an organic look.
Shrimp tanks: Use shrimp and small fish to provide them with both beauty and habitat.
Low-Maintenance Aquariums: These aquariums perform well in low-tech settings making them suitable for beginner aquarists.
Difficulties
Algae Growth: The white leaves of plants in tanks with intense lighting conditions become especially prone to algae accumulation. The algae buildup can be managed by species that feed on algae including nerite snails and Amano shrimp.
Delicate Nature: The slower growth of this plant compared to other Anubias species makes it more sensitive to damage and nutrient shortages because it lacks chlorophyll.
Nutrient Demand: Its inability to photosynthesize efficiently requires a consistent supply of nutrients for survival.
The Anubias White stands out in aquascaping as a distinctive treasure that provides both sophistication and elegance. The plant provides minimal maintenance requirements while its delicate look and slow growth rate make it an ideal choice for aquarists.
